BUILDING CITIZENS & SCHOLARS IN OUR CLASSROOM:
At Selwyn we are intentional about a school-wide focus on developing students as citizens and scholars. As a Personalized Learning School we aim to develop the whole child and empower each to take ownership of his/her learning by providing multiple pathways to demonstrate mastery learning in order to be a successful and productive 21st century citizen in an ever-changing world. Each month we promote a different Learner Profile Trait through direct instruction, classroom activities, morning meetings, and service learning. Several students are chosen to be recognized every month for consistently demonstrating these personal and academic skills and strengths. At the end of each month we gather with the rest of the school for an assembly to celebrate our collective learning and development of each characteristic. One way to reinforce the concepts, skills, and traits being explored at school is by continuing the discussion with your family at dinner, in the car, or at bedtime.
Each month you can click a linked box for conversation starters to use at home.
